Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior official said the incident made him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
