Sam Fender was awarded the honor recently in Newcastle

The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

Fender was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his new release his work was named the top album of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.

These funds assisted venues that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues received financial assistance in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and fans.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

He is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when Pulp won the prize in the year 1996 for their album the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker stated that the band would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

That year, musician she divided her bounty across a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," the artist shared with the media.

Two years ago, they contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their group, as well as other local music groups.

Also the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked artist Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success touched another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had rescued several local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in that area and the other in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
