One extended journey circling the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an older woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the personnel realised the passenger was not present.

An extensive rescue mission located her remains the next day.

Authorities are examining the tragedy, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that guests would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would attend the liner in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the first stop on the voyage.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of money to join the voyage - were taken there for a daily excursion with the option of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled outing without my mother".

In her statement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a bushwalking club.

"Based on limited details we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she wished the investigation would be able to identify what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mum became unwell on the hill climb," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to return, unescorted. Then the vessel departed, apparently without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that chain of events, or soon after, mother succumbed, by herself."

Operator Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with officials to aid their examination".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had provided its complete assistance to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate data. It was specially constructed to access isolated areas of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to take individuals on day excursions.

Events of this nature are rare, and passenger vessels have systems to record which passengers are boarding or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship just isn't an option," a specialist commented.

Shipping companies take these procedures with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such events from occurring," the specialist added.

"This is most likely a shocking - and sad - single occurrence."
